Right, well now that we have seen all the players and their lists, I have a few predictions of my own.
The Master
First, my favorites to win the event: Aaron Chapman, Corey Reynolds, Cyle Pool, and Shannon Shoemaker, all of these are guys who have been doing amazing all year with their lists, they also have performed really well at past masters, and I think are names to look out for. There are a few other tough competitors I wouldn’t be shocked to see in the running; however, these are my favorites to win the whole thing.
Dark Horse
This is the prediction for people who are basically slipping a little under the radar, but that I think are going to be really surprising people with how well they perform.
Joey Greek- Joey has been playing his Nightstalker list up and down the East coast, winning two team tournaments with it, and placing well in several other events. Joey has been training hard, and trying to get experience against every style of list he can, which will be invaluable at this year’s Masters. With the shooting heavy meta, at the event, Joey’s stealthy and his speed is going to give him an edge that will be tough to predict. I see Joey finishing top 15 this year.
Tim Smith- Tim hails from the Southeast, that land where they created the shooting heavy meta, and while many seem to have just been facing that style of play this year, Tim has been playing under it for 2 years. Tim’s Herd list is specifically designed to close with the enemy quick, and will be happy to see several of the warmachine and shooting heavy lists being touted around. Tim is a great player, and I’m excited to hear how his vanguard of doom does over the weekend!
Paragon
In many ways, this is the award I consider the true master, as I think hobby and sportsmanship is essential to the game. Here are my top two picks for Paragon:
Kris Kapsner- The man is basically the definition of the paragon hobbyist, he is a great player, has a really nice army, and is an amazing sportsman. If Kris doesn’t win, I have almost no doubts that he will be in the top 5 for Paragon.
Ryan Munsell- I had the pleasure of being tabled by Ryan at last year’s Masters, his army will be one of the best in the room, he is a lot of fun to play against, and he is probably the best Salamander player in the country. Ryan is one to look out for on the top tables.
