Well, we are back with another installment of Kings of Hobby. Last month, I was a huge disappointment by failing to paint a single thing for the challenge, and for some of this month, I was a little worried I would let you all down again.
However, despite a very busy month, I was able to finish one of my pledged regiments of Tortured Souls, and I am very pleased with the final results.
For basing, I used the stalagmite tutorial I shared in my last entry, and I am pretty happy with the final product. The base itself is Vallejo Grey Sand ground texture, applied in two coats. I wanted my cave floor to be smoother then the lava texture I normally use. Finally, to provide a bit more visual variation, I added a water feature, which is painted dark blue, with Sheer Aqua Mod Podge applied over in two coats, and a pile of skulls against one of the Stalagmites.
The general idea I had, was that these are the bloated, tortured remains of beings who were pulled in by the enticing elements of my Abyssal forces. I envisioned the corruption literally spilling forth from their bloated bodies, as they buzz around the battle field.
To really enhance this foul element, I add streams of slime to the models, coming out from the eyes, mouths, and boils of the bodies. I did this with a hot glue gun, giving a small dab of glue, and then pulling away from the model, once the glue was dry, I gave the glue a coat of Citadel Nurgle’s Rot, which gives it that gross slime look.
With 1 new unit entry painted, and 50% of the monthly goal of 250 points painted that scores me 2 points, putting me on the board, but decidedly in last place!
Having a finished unit has really helped energize me for this army, and with the US Masters now out of the way, I am hoping to really dive in and devote my time to this army project. Hopefully I can continue to build and gain momentum over the next month.
For next month, I am going to try to finish another regiment of Tortured Souls, and a Regiment of Hellequin.
For my Hellequin, I will be using the Exalted Seeker Chariot from GW, which I think will tie in nicely with the Succubi that will eventually be heavily featured in the army.
As a way to get readers involved in the challenge, head over to our Facebook page, where you can vote for your favorite of the selected Kings of Hobby Units for this first 500 Points. The most voted entry will net that hobbyist 2 bragging points, and second most voted will score 1 bragging point. https://www.facebook.com/dash28/
