Kings of Hobby: April

Billy’s back again with another update on my Kings of Hobby project! This time, noticing that my army so far is basically a bag of glass hammers, I decided to work on some chaff and a cheeky character that no Abyssal/Abyssal Dwarf/Twilight Kin army is complete without: Ba’su’su.

I couldn’t quite decide on how I wanted to build my gargoyles. I have plenty of the Mantic ones, which I actually like quite a lot, but I wanted to do something different. While cleaning mould lines one night in front of the TV, I thought, “Wouldn’t these look awesome with some cool skulls glued directly to the wings and tail portion of the models?”

After looking online for a bit, trying to find just the right bits, I came across the GW Skulls box set. Inside, it contains a few Nurgle Plaguebearer skulls. I didn’t have that kit exactly, but I did have a ton of leftover Plaguebearer bits from way back when. A little poster tac, and voila! Creepy gargoyles!

I ended up digging out enough plaguebearer heads to do two troops of gargoyles. I think they came out pretty great!

I wanted to give them the real feeling of flight, so I pinned the gargoyles on different lengths of brass rod just for variety.

For these models, I wanted there to be more of the purple color to contrast a little bit with the more humanoid models.

For Ba’su’su, I purchased a wonderfully characterful miniature from Reaper: Bella, Succubus. This is a very charming miniature of a nude succubus with very small wings, casually flipping her hair. I thought she’d be perfect to represent my Ba’su’su.

I tried to stay consistent with my skin tones throughout the army to give that “spooky, sex dungeon vibe.”

Score

2 points – Completing 100% of my painting goal

1 point – Adding two units to the army

Total Score: 3

Goal

My goal for May is to finish another regiment of Succubi and a character. I haven’t decided which one yet, so whichever really jumps out at me from the Vanguard warband most likely. I’m excited to keep building this army, so stay tuned for more updates!

  1. Great gargoyles, brilliant Ba’su’su! Especially with how much of a nightmare that character is to face 😀
