Greetings readers! Well, I missed a week, but I have now gotten back on schedule, and hopefully won’t miss any more.
I have been chugging along on this project, and am particularly excited as my Atlantis Werewolves came in, much faster then I was expecting!
Before I talk too much about progress, I wanted to touch on the most recent item that has been keeping me in the painting hotseat.
I had to read this for a book club I am leading at work; i’m a public librarian, and I have an outreach book club, which meets in a local high school. The librarian there said teens love True Crime, and suggested I start a True Crime book club for them.Well a few weeks later and it meant I had to read for said program.
True Crime is 100% NOT my thing. I love horror and scary, but True Crime often is just a bit too demented for me, but I dove into this reading with the thought that it would expand my reading exposure.
Well, this book deserves all the praise it gets, it strikes a wonderful balance between personal perspective and empathy; raw facts and details. That said, I could only listen for about an hour before I got disturbed, SO I also dove into a new podcast.
At the recommendation of Mike Rossi, writer on this site, and fellow host of Unplugged Radio, I started the HP Lovecraft Literary podcast, and it is excellent! Find it here or on various podcast sites.
Right, well enough about my motivators, lets see what I finished.
Honestly, these weren’t quite as much as I probably should have pushed myself to finish. But, things have been a bit hectic lately, between global health catastrophes, my parents moving and needing my help fixing up their new place; I have been swamped.
That said, I was happy to finish two things. The Catapult was largely finished, I just repainted the stone, and the skin on the crew. The archers, same thing, skin repaint, some zombie parts additions, and there you have it, two more additions to the Brotherhood.
I have always loved the kid with the slingshot model, so I was excited to integrate him into the unit.
I did struggle a bit with the zombie flesh (the greener ones), as I never wrote the formula down (big mistake) and couldn’t quite recreate what I did on other units. Always, ALWAYS write those paint formulas down people! This skin looks better in person, but still isn’t quite what I wanted, but some variation in the zombie skin across the army is ok.
I loved placing crew with the War Engine, frequently at events I see crew-less War Engines, and I always think that lacks a certain something. I’m proud to say my Treb has two crew! I particularly loved this guy with his pick axe.
After finishing these two units I was looking at my desk, where all these units were, and couldn’t help but feeling proud. My little project was starting to flesh out into a full army. During a long term project, its always important to pause and reflect how far you have come. So I did just that, and put all my toy soldiers next to each other, and snapped a shot!
This is about 800 points, nearly halfway there!
The next thing I will paint is going to be the second regiment of Spearmen, I need to get them done to buff out the army’s numbers, and to provide important support to my battle line. After the Spearmen, I plan to reward myself with the horde of Werewolves. After spending a decent chunk of cash on them, I figure I have to get them painted up and ready for Vanguard at the end of April!
Well until next Friday, I want to wish all my readers safety in the coming weeks, and I hope you all can steal moments to paint and enjoy your hobbies.
