Brotherhood of Blood: Week 11

Greetings readers, another Brotherhood of Blood update coming to ya! Wow 11 weeks, honestly, while time is flying by, I am really happy with my progress, 3 regiments, 1 character, 1 war engine, and 2 troops really isn’t too bad in that time frame.

When last I posted I was enthralled by the HP Lovecraft Literary Podcast, well I guess my attentions are fickle, because I have flitted onto the next audio entertainment, listening to “Flight of the Eisenstein,” book four in the Horus Heresy book series.

If you haven’t listened to a Black Library audiobook I strongly recommend it, the production value is great, and the stories fun and fast-paced, perfect for painting too. This was my second time reading this book, and on reread I liked it a lot more. Without giving my full review, basically it has a nice blend of characters that have satisfying arcs, and despite being book 4 in the HH, it serves pretty well as a stand-alone, or starting point for reading the series. Not a mindblowing book, but fun and entertaining.

I then was at a loss what to read next, and dove into one of my favorite series of all time, Harry Potter.

I have read and listened to these books probably over a dozen times, they are some of my favorites, and I regularly revisit them. I don’t really need to tell you about one of the most popular book franchises of all time, but what I will say, is that the audiobooks are phenomenal, and if you haven’t given them a try, they are really fun, adding a lot that the movies just couldn’t do.

Right, so onto my progress this last week, well, in addition, to writing and editing furiously for this site, and Unplugged Radio, I managed to complete the entire Undead Footman unit!

I’m pleased with how they turned out, I love some of the little details in the unit, such as the small dog at the corner of the unit, or the friar to the front of the unit with his shrine staff. I had a lot of fun painting the wounds in the unit, and have really hit a nice method for getting these to look oozing and gross.

Next painting project I am at a little bit of an impasse. Counter Charge announced a Spring Painting contest, to give all of us under quarantine to still feel a way to be connected. I would really like to enter in at least 2 categories, preferably 3. Details can be found here.

The categories are Individual Character, Monster, and Unit, the only kicker is you need to enter something that is unpainted as of March 25th, which, with me giving a lot of my stuff facelifts, excludes a good chunk of my planned projects.

My unit will be the Werewolf horde I just got in, I think they will be a lot of fun to paint, and they were one of the next things I had planned anyway.

Characters and Monsters; however, leave me in a little bit of a lurch. I probably should paint one of the characters I need for this army, but I have a slew of other minis I am also tempted to do. The only monster in this army though is going to be based on a Terrorghiest model which I had already started. So, I can either paint an unrelated monster (tempting), or just paint my Undead Dragon and post it, realizing it doesn’t count for the contest, but still is cool.

With that in mind, I am going to start with Werewolves, pepping them to start being painted on the 25th, I will also prep a character for the army, and if I finish the Werewolves in a relatively fast time, paint that.

Since I can’t start painting these things till midway through the week, my plan to keep moving forward on the army as a whole is to prep these choices, and then start working on the Dragon, until the 25th, when I dive fully into the Werewolves.

That means I may not have anything flashy to show off next week, but I am sure I will have some progress to show off. Until next week see you!
