Greetings readers! Back with another Brotherhood of Blood update. This week I have gotten back on that painting wagon and have been rather productive, logging about 8 hours of painting this week, a nice increase from the previous two weeks.
However, I was not working specifically on Brotherhood models; instead, I was doing ab it of a palette cleanser. One thing I notice, specifically for myself, is that when working on an army project around the middle of the project I tend to get fatigued. Painting the same things, the same schemes, just hit a wall making it tough to get motivated for that specific project.
Often, this is when I will then slump off of painting, and take a LOT longer to finish the army as a whole.
However, with this blog as a motivator, I have stayed plugged into painting, while still wanting a break from Brotherhood. So I painted some pieces from the Space Hulk game I have had for nearly a decade. I thought these would be a nice, low-pressure project, that also allowed me mentally to check off a box for a project I have wanted to do for a while.
This also had the added benefit of allowing me to play around with contrast paints some more, something I have been wanting to do for a while.
SO, while yes I haven’t gone further with the Brotherhood of Blood, I have completed 1 Tyranid Broodlord, and have gotten a lot of progress on a gaggle (swarm?) of other Tyranids.
First the Broodlord. I started with a Wraithbone base then used Grey and Yellow contrast, I then highlighted those up with traditional paints. I am pretty pleased with the end result.
The skulls I used Snakebite Leather contrast, with a 50/50 ratio of contrast medium and contrast paint, so it went on thin. Then I gave one highlight with Ushabti Bone.
This was a relatively quick process, a 4-5 hours, for a solid result. The details pop, and the muscles ect. have nice shading, without a TON of work, just three layers post-contrast. The yellow is just one layer after the contrast paint, which for yellow I think is particularly good!
The rest of the Tyranids pictured below I am giving a much quicker paint job.
While they aren’t finished, they are pretty close to finished. I have highlighted the yellow up one step, and need to finish the basing, and then maybe pick out the eyes and edge of the bone. While the skin on these obviously doesn’t look nearly as good, for board game pieces I think they will do nicely.
I hope to finish these minis this weekend, and then dive back into the Brotherhood, my goal is to finally start work on the Werewolves! Well that is it for this week, I will hopefully have even more to share next week!
