Greetings, it is Ashley, or “Smashley” depending on who you talk to. Starting with the Kings of War scene in the Pacific Northwest casually for a few years, I started more competitive play when my boyfriend and I started travelling for tournaments. Now I am part of the Northeast region of the tournament scene. Playing almost solely on Universal Battle and in tournaments as there are not many players conveniently located to me.
I started with Ogres as my main army and had tried them with many different allies over time to mix things up. Earlier this year I began to suffer from what I like to call “army fatigue” and needed a change. That change found me playing Kingdoms of Men, which have become near and dear to my heart. Just ask my spouse who wants to play them but can’t because I am too attached.
The Captain’s Men
An army of men hold Briggs Outpost in these times of war and strife, led by the one known only as The Captain and stationed there to ensure that no one regains access to the ore-rich mines. The Captain is believed to have been born in the region while others suggest he was born in the capital, a third son to a wealthy merchant. None of these reports are confirmed but it is fact that none in the company know how he came to be a captain. His prowess in battle and infectious charisma have made him a true leader over men. They commonly name themselves “The Captain’s Men” as the men feel great honour in being part of said company.
During their time in the region, The Captain has recruited three giants to their cause. Many were skeptical of the alliance at first; however, The Captain has seemingly sparked loyalty and love with the giants as well. The three giants are all considered guardians in the region: one of the mountains, one of the swamps and one of the forests. Their knowledge and passion for their respective regions is sure to assist the company in future endeavours. Along with a diverse group of fighters, there are a number of heroes among them and all together they form a fierce army to face.
Now, at the direction of The Captain, the men have turned their eyes north, looking to secure more land and defensive positions in the mountains. It is coming to war, will they stand up to the challenge?
Expectations
Firstly, I am looking forward to playing Alex Round 1. Secondly, I am always excited to get in more games against new people. As my games will probably be on Universal Battle, I will sadly lack getting to shake my opponent’s hand in person.
This has already given me an opportunity to create fluff for my Kingdoms of Men, which I am still new to. Hopefully I can continue to improve with this army and kick some ass while I am at it.
it’ll be interesting to see what fluff you come up with for the army. i’ve barely started my Kingdoms of Men army, but i got so into it i wound up creating an entire backstory for where they were from. but then, i’ve always been more of a worldbuilder than a painter/modeller.
Great campaign preview, Smashley! I really like how you are expanding upon the lore of the Captain, an enigmatic and intriguing leader to be sure.
