Ogres of the Moonlit Hunt – A Hobby Blog (12)

Note – this article is part of an ongoing series – previous articles can be found here.

Welcome back to my hobby blog after a month-long hiatus. During that time I was in the middle of moving, which proved to be a hectic, stressful, and exciting process. One of the best parts of my new house is that I have a dedicated hobby space, which I will now show off in all its resplendent glory!

Kudos to anyone who recognizes any of my nerd memorabilia.

Not only did I get the space set up, but I also broke it in by painting the remaining units in my 1995 point list.

Before moving, I was able to get my fourth and final Red Goblin Scout Troop to about 80% completion. Once the painting desk was organized, I picked up my brush and finished them off. Amongst all the commotion I forgot to take work in progress pictures, but here they are ready for battle.

This left me with one final model to complete, the Ogre Warlord. I purchased Bragg the Gutsman from Games Workshop to represent this Hero. The sculpt is super cool and fits in well with my army theme. Unfortunately, it is a Finecast model and plagued with several minor issues. I cleaned it up as best I could and had a lot of fun with the paint job. By this time I think I’d mastered the technique for Ogre skin. This model has lots of scars that enabled me to bring in some purple shading and brighter highlights.

It took several attempts, but I think I got the eyes just right.
I’ll obviously be opting for the increased Crushing Strength and reduced Defense on this guy. I’m not sure it’s the best choice from a tactical standpoint but, I mean, just look at him!

The Snotling on the base comes from the Skarsnik kit. I had run out of mushroom bits from the other Night Goblin kits, so this little guy was the perfect addition to the base. I can’t help but focus on the imperfections due to casting, but overall I’m happy with how my Ogre Warlord turned out.

With the army finished, I was eager to set it all up and get some photographs. The basing is similar enough to my Forces of Nature army that I can use the same display board without needing to build a new one. The army (and the display board) are too big for my lightbox, which meant I really didn’t know how to get a good picture. I mucked about with some basic editing tools, but I am way out of my depth here. The results are not great, but at least you can see the whole army together.

The close-up shots came out a bit better.

Though I’ve reached the milestone I initially set out to achieve, this army blog is far from done! I have several other topics to explore here, and I will eventually expand the army to the 2300 point level. Though, I’ll probably need to get some actual experience playing the army first!
